Preschool teacher Lisa: "With Readioo, the children have aha experiences around the written language"

When the preschool curriculum was revised this summer and literature and written language were given an even clearer place in teaching, preschool teacher Lisa Olson and her colleagues in Bollebygd saw an opportunity to develop their learning environment.

“We wanted to give books an even more natural place in everyday life. That's why we created a cozy corner where children can explore literature – both on their own and together with an educator,” says Lisa.

In conjunction with the investment, Readioo was also launched in the business. The results were immediate.

– The children use the material from morning to afternoon. They seek out the cozy corner on their own and Readioo has become the absolute favorite in there. It is truly a success, says Lisa.

Versatile tool for all ages

During her years as an educator, Lisa has tested many different materials in her work, but according to her, Readioo stands out.

– It is by far the most versatile tool I have worked with. Take the Letter Book as an example – many ABC books are quite limited, but with Readioo, children get to practice phonics, reading direction and sentence structure. And since the illustrations also have sound, there is a completely different depth to the experience!

She describes how the children had real “aha” experiences when they discovered the reading direction – that the text goes from left to right.

– It's so concrete. The children tap on one word at a time and hear the sentence read out word by word. Suddenly they understand how writing works. It's then noticeable when they do other activities like writing their name.

Creates interaction and inclusion

In Lisa's department, the children are between 2.5 and 6 years old. She says that Readioo works just as well for the very youngest as for the older children and that it creates cooperation between the children.

– It will be a social activity where the children explore together. You see how they help each other and how they share the experience.

For some children, Readioo is more than a language development material, it becomes a crucial support.

– We have two children with severe language impairment who have difficulty communicating with both adults and other children. With Readioo, language training becomes a fun activity. The opportunity to repeat over and over again is worth its weight in gold for their development. We believe that it is a great support for children who go to a speech therapist outside of preschool.

“Mandatory in preschool”

Lisa doesn't hesitate when asked if she would recommend Readioo to other educators:

– For me, Readioo feels like mandatory material in preschool. It supports all children and makes reading both enjoyable and inclusive. I am convinced that Readioo will spread quickly and become an obvious part of preschool activities throughout Sweden.

And perhaps it is the children's reactions that say the most:

– Readioo does something magical. And I don't just mean it's cool technology – it's actually magical to see how enchanted and engaged the children become in their reading experiences.
