General information
Readioo transforms books and other educational products into interactive adventures. We offer a 100% screen-free reading experience that stimulates children's interest in reading and contributes to their language development.
By using Readioo's reading pen and tapping on images or texts, children can discover spoken words, sounds, and music.
Curious about how the technology works?
The reading pen detects small codes printed on the product and plays the corresponding sounds. It is compatible with products specifically designed for this technology.
No, absolutely not. The codes are part of the standard four-colour printing process and contain nothing beyond what is found in a regular children's book. All our books are printed within the EU by established printing houses, using high-quality and environmentally friendly materials. 🌱
Recommended for children aged 1½ years and up. No upper age limit. However, they are most popular among preschoolers.
Yes. Readioo's reading pen is CE marked and has been tested against relevant EU standards for toys, electrical safety and chemicals before market launch.
The product complies with the following standards and directives, among others:
EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3 (mechanical properties, flammability and chemical safety)
EN IEC 62115 + A11 (safety of electrical toys)
RoHS, tested according to IEC 62321 series methods, in accordance with Directive 2011/65/EU

Readioo usage
1. Connect the Readioo reading pen to your computer using the included USB-C cable 🖥️
2. Click here to access the audio file. Download the audio file to your computer. 📂
3. Open the Readioo reading pen's window and open the BOOK folder. Drag or copy the file from Downloads. Wait until the transfer is complete before disconnecting the device from your computer ✅
Our Readioo 1.0 reading pen comes with a USB-A cable (standard USB). If your computer only has USB-C ports (which some new models may have), you will need to use a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
These adapters are available at most electronics stores and usually cost a small amount. We recommend using a quality adapter to ensure a stable connection - poorer quality adapters may result in data not being transferred correctly.
Please note that many USB-C to USB-C cables do not have data transfer functionality or do not communicate properly with the pen - which will result in the download not working.
Don't worry :) We have tested several different cables on the market and can recommend one from IKEA that only costs 19 SEK – it works great both for downloading audio files and for charging the reading pen.
Adapter (USB-A to USB-C)
No, it's completely free to download the audio files! The only thing you need to pay for is Readioo 1.0 and the books you want to read.
The 2026 version refers to the version launched and sold in 2026, with current audio files and accessories.
However, the production year on the back shows when the pen was manufactured.
Since production, quality control, and transport take approximately 4–6 months, a pen launched and sold in the spring of 2026 may have been produced in late 2025, for example, in November or December.
This does not mean that the pen is faulty or that audio files are missing. If the pen plays sounds when you tap it on the books, it is working as intended. ✨
All pens included in the Starter Pack: Join the Adventure launched in June 2026 have the production year 2026.
Support and returns
This is because the computer is not properly connecting for data transfer. This is usually related to the cable, USB port, or computer, and can typically be resolved with the steps below.
Step 1: Check the cable and USB port
- For reading pens produced in 2024 and 2025, a USB-A to USB-C cable that supports data transfer is required. For reading pens produced in 2026, a USB-C to USB-C cable will also work.
You can find the year of production on the back of the reading pen. - Ensure that the cable is properly connected to both the pen and the computer.
- For reading pens produced in 2024 and 2025, avoid USB-C to USB-C cables or pure charging cables – they often charge but do not transfer data.
- If possible, try with a different USB-A to USB-C cable. For example, this one from IKEA works well if you have lost the included cable: https://www.ikea.com/se/sv/p/sittbrunn-usb-a-till-usb-c-lila-60595984/
Step 2: Try another computer (preferably Windows)
If you are using a Mac, we recommend trying to connect the reading pen to a Windows computer if possible. Windows is generally more tolerant when it comes to USB drives, and this can sometimes solve the problem immediately.
It may take about 2–10 seconds for the computer to recognize the pen as a device, depending on the computer.
Step 3: Perform a quick reset of the pen
You can also try restarting the pen: Just below the volume button, hidden under the silicone cover, there is a small hole – this is the reset button. Use a thin, pointed object and press into the hole for a few seconds until you feel a small click. Then connect the pen to the computer again. In some cases, this can reset the USB connection.
(Reset does not erase the audio file and can be done at any time. It works more like a forced restart of the pen.)
If the problem still persists even when using the included cable or after trying a USB-A to USB-C cable and the steps above, please email us at support@readioo.com and describe the problem so our experts can assist you.🔧
For reading pens produced in 2024 and 2025 (you can find the production year on the back of the reading pen): Use the included USB-C cable and a charger that does not exceed 5V, 1A. Avoid using fast chargers as this can damage the reading pen.
For reading pens produced in 2026: Use the included USB-C to USB-A cable or a USB-C to USB-C cable.
How to tell if it's charging normally:
- When charging, the light will be solid green.🟢
- When the pen is fully charged, the light turns off.⚪
- If you use the wrong charger, the light may instead flash or not light up at all – in which case it is not charging correctly.⚠️
If you are unsure which charger to use, you can connect the charging cable directly to your computer; that always works!
If your reading pen is not working properly, it may be necessary to reset it. For example, if:
- it does not turn on when you press the power button
- does not charge
- does not appear on the computer when connected
Think of it as a restart, similar to how you sometimes need to restart a computer when you have technical problems.
Here's how to reset your reading pen:
Just below the volume button, hidden under the silicone cover, there is a small hole - this is the reset button. Use a thin, pointed object and press into the hole for a few seconds.
🔄 Please note: A reset will not delete any audio files from your reading pen.
If the problem persists after restarting, we encourage you to contact our customer service - customerservice@readioo.com.
Lost the included cable? Look here!
We have tested several different cables on the market and can highly recommend the one from IKEA – it works great for both charging and downloading. You can buy it directly from IKEA – here is the link: SEAT WELL USB-A to USB-C
We have also tested two variants from Biltema that work well: USB cable 1m , USB cable 2m .
Which charger should I use?
To charge the pen, always use the included USB-A to C cable together with a charger of max. 5 V, 1 A, a common model for small electronic products such as decorative lighting.
👉 Avoid fast chargers, e.g. for some mobile phones (often USB-C to C cables). The connector may look the same, but the power is higher and can cause the pen not to charge properly – or in the worst case, damage the battery.
A simple tip: if you are unsure, connect the cable directly to your computer. It always works and is completely safe. 💙
Here's how you can tell if it's charging normally:
- Charging: the indicator light stays solid green 🟢
- Fully charged: the light turns off ⚪
- Wrong charger: the light may flash or not turn on at all ⚠️ (charging will not work in this case)
